Since March of 2009, there has been a group of Drupal enthusiasts gathering in central New Jersey. What started out small is now a group of well over 500 members across groups.drupal.org and meetup.com. This growth has increased every year, especially with the start of DrupalCamp NJ in 2012.
Over the past two and a half years other community events have brought new opportunities to learn about and contribute to the project. Of note, the Central NJ Drupal Group held three Drupal 8 sprints, two of which received support from the Drupal 8 Accelerate initiative.
Through these sprints and other contributions, members of the NJ community have worked on over 600 issues for the Drupal 8 release. Some of the issues the Central NJ Drupal Group worked involved improving the menu system, fixing safe markup issues, and creating the new Classy theme.
As we move into the Drupal 8 era, we aim for NJ to continue as a major source of activity in the Drupal community. Our 5th Annual DrupalCamp in January 2016 is a key way to increase interest and involvment in Drupal in and around the region.
