DrupalCamp NJ 2016

Content Authorship Transformed - HAX and Git

If you want to learn how to design pages with accessible drag-and-drop and import content from git repos, this session is for you! We'll take a look at some new modules, Drupal distributions, and interfaces that we are using to make content authoring easier and more sustainable. This includes:

  • How we hi-jacked Drupal's WYSIWYG to create an accessible authoring experience with HAX and shortcode modules
  • How you can import/export content and structure into Drupal from Github repos
  • How content authorship will impact online learning in ELMSLN and beyond
  • How sustainable content approaches might encourage production of Open Education Resources (OER)

An invisible danger looms over all digital content — obsolescence. As technology continues to evolve, content can get trapped in formats and delivery mechanisms that are now wholly obsolete, contributing to the short life spans of digital information. Unfortunately, the more we continue to create content that only exists in Drupal's databases, the more we contribute to this danger. Links break, nodes go missing, funding dries up, and websites are dismantled, contributing to a loss of potentially valuable data and knowledge. Unlike a printed book, digital content is ephemeral if we don’t plan well. Instead of waiting around for our content to disappear, let’s start trying to solve this!
