Docker is poised to revolutionize the way web applications are deployed and hosted. Docker lets us describe, isolate and deploy services more efficiently and consistently without all the complications of virtual machines and the overhead they consume. We can also use Docker to supercharge our day-to-day Drupal development. Come see how we are using Docker to solve development environments.

In this session we’ll learn about containers, Docker, and what sets them apart from other technologies. We will demonstrate using Docker in daily Drupal development, and show how easy it can be to have consistent, reproducible, and isolated development environments across your entire team, no matter what platform they use. It’s easier than you might think!

Drush is a multipurpose command-line tool for doing almost anything to your Drupal site.

You can get status, clear caches, download modules to the right spots, install them, install Drupal itself for goodness sakes. You can make backups, create users, heck, it'll even make you a sandwich if you're special.

You can even run Drupal without a web server. Wait... Wat? ¯\_(⊙_◎)_/¯

The things you can do with Drush will quickly make it the single most important tool in managing your Drupal site on a day-to-day basis. In my previous job, Drush saved hundreds of workhours by allowing me to manage 100+ websites with separate logins, modules, profiles, themes, content, and maintain them without losing any more of my hair. It is simple to set up, and there are a number of very powerful commands built right in.

This session will give an introduction to Drush from concept to installation, to basic usage. I won't just show a list of the basic commands, but we'll dig into the ones that I have found most useful and if you have ones that you'd like to explore or have explained, we can do that too! This session is for you, after all.

Life after dpm: Debugging in Drupal 8

Debug your PHP code efficiently without Devel module’s dpm(Drupal Print Message). With Drupal 8’s adoption of Symfony and object-oriented architecture, we need to adjust how we debug our code. Up until now, many of us have been using the convenient dpm function for debugging and introspection. However, dpm cannot print protected properties or provide information about methods of an object. This makes it difficult to debug objects and classes. It’s time to learn a new approach! We will look at alternative methods to solve this problem such as:

Using the continuous integration tool Probo CI to speed up the testing and approval process - http://probo.ci/

What is Visual Regression Testing?

Well, it's testing your site for the introduction of bugs (regressions) that affect the look of your site. Maybe you added some styling to one of the product pages on your eCommerce site, and after you pushed those changes to production you find out that, inadvertently, you affected the layout of your checkout page. Or a tweak to the footer layout broke the mega menus in a subsection of the site. Visual Regression Testing is the process you go through to catch those types of things that cause us to stay up nights, clicking through your client site after you made changes, hoping you catch them before the client does.

In this session we'll talk about some of the tools available to help us with the tedious and time consuming task of Visual Regression Testing, demo the Drulenium module https://www.drupal.org/project/drulenium

Drulenium Visual Testing Concept:

The system takes Image screenshots of web pages, before you make changes like site upgrades to your site.
The system takes another set of Image screenshots of web pages, after you make changes
The system calculates the difference of image pixels that changed and generates an animated GIF to look at

Find out what makes a successful mentoring experience.

Drupal Core Mentoring has become immensely popular since the idea of online office hours first came about in July 2011. Soon after, mentoring at Drupal events came on the scene at DrupalCon Denver, then Munich in 2012. To ease new contributors into the Drupal contribution workflow, every DrupalCon since then has included Core Mentored Sprints and First Time Sprinter Workshops.

We will show examples of how to apply the key components of Drupal Core mentoring to mentoring inside organizations:
